In the heart of Lincoln Center, the city’s performing arts complex, a station some hundred years old was hard pressed by its rapidly growing community. LHPA’s renovation and modernization brought a new level of service, accessibility, art and identity. A complete rehabilitation included designing new entrance/control areas, introducing elevators; upgrading lighting, power and communications systems; and restoring historic terra cotta wall surfaces.
With the completion of a vibrant platform-long mosaic mural in collaboration with Arts for Transit artist Nancy Spero, the station now presents an outstanding visual experience. It also serves passengers with greatly improved practical experience whether they access the station on foot, by elevator or by train.
