The Fulton Street Mall project is a twelve-block transitway and pedestrian mall extending through the heart of Brooklyn’s downtown shopping district. It was conceived as a catalyst for the redevelopment of Downtown Brooklyn and has led to a downtown revitalization, the development of MetroTech, and rejuvenation of cultural, commercial and residential life of the Borough of Brooklyn, including important cultural activities such as the popular programs at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
In addition, architectural services included design, restoration of existing materials; circulation planning, technical inspections for water damage and structural problems; upgrading mechanical/electrical systems; exhibition design; and transportation planning. For the program’s outdoor component, the architects designed street furniture, canopies, vendors' kiosks, directory and telephone kiosks, high mast lighting and all associated graphics and signage.
