The new Westgate Village complex, now under construction outside Shanghai’s historic section, is a 2,000,000 square foot mini-city consisting of four buildings connected by bridges, including a 12-acre residential community of 1,000 apartments, which are being designed as gardens in the sky LHPA’s master plan moves the density to the perimeter of the city to provide the greatest amount of open space. The two lower floors of the buildings provide retail space. The apartments, which rise above the shops, range in size from one-bedroom units of 750 square feet to four-bedroom units with 2,000 square feet.
A clubhouse offers residents recreational facilities – a pool, health club, exercise area, a restaurant – and parking for 1,000 cars. The complex will be landscaped with a meandering green “river” of plantings and rock formations at ground level to evoke the sense of a river and fluid movements as it winds between the buildings.
